Brooke had achieved her dream of becoming a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Deputy—a career dedicated to protecting, serving, and coming to the rescue of others. But soon after achieving that dream, Brooke received devastating news: she had a brain tumor.
Suddenly, the one who was accustomed to helping others found herself in need of help.
Brooke began months of chemotherapy treatments that brought difficult and painful side effects. The treatments caused her to miss significant time from work, created serious issues with her teeth, and caused her to lose her hair. With a two-year-old daughter at home and bills continuing to mount, navigating her illness while trying to care for her family became overwhelming.
But one of the most heartbreaking effects of her treatment had nothing to do with the physical pain.
After Brooke lost her hair, her little girl began struggling emotionally because her mommy no longer looked like the “Mommy” she knew. For Brooke, watching her daughter struggle with the changes was even more painful than the treatments themselves.
That’s when her Angels stepped in.
Brooke’s Angel Team Leader submitted a request to bless her with a human-hair wig so she could regain a small sense of normalcy—and, perhaps most importantly, so her little girl could look at her and recognize the mommy she remembered.
Thanks to the generosity of one of our Angel Providers, the Angel Foundation FL was able to purchase the wig for Brooke. The foundation also came alongside her with financial assistance to help with mounting bills and gift cards to ease the burden of everyday expenses while she continued her treatment and recovery.
Brooke had spent her career answering the call when others needed help. During one of the most difficult seasons of her life, it was our community’s turn to answer the call for her.
We are incredibly thankful for the generous hearts in our community who make stories like Brooke’s possible. Together, our Angels were able to come to the rescue of a beautiful community hero during her time of need—helping her heal, care for her daughter, and ultimately return to the work she loves: serving and protecting others.
Sometimes, even heroes need Angels.
