‘s story.In March 2013, tragedy struck a family on Faithway Drive when a sinkhole opened beneath their home while 37-year-old Jeffrey slept in his bedroom.
His brother Jeremy tried desperately to save him. “I opened up the door and there was a big hole there. His bed and dresser and everything was gone,” Jeremy told FOX 13. “I jumped in the hole immediately and started digging because I heard him yelling for me, ‘Jeremy, please help me.'”
Jeffrey could not be saved. His body was never recovered. There was no warning. Nothing the family could have done. In seconds, their home, their safety and someone they loved were gone.
While news crews surrounded the property, our Angels saw a family in crisis that needed someone to walk alongside them. Our Angel Team stepped in immediately, providing hotel accommodations so the family had a safe place to stay through those first overwhelming days, along with the compassion and steady presence they needed to face the unimaginable..
Two years later, in 2015, the sinkhole opened again. For Jeremy, the nightmare returned. “I live this nightmare every day,” he shared. “It’s just rough. Just let him be. His final resting place was that hole.”
No family expects a catastrophic event like this. No one should have to face their darkest moment alone.
For 20 years, that has been the heart of our Angel Team: surrounding families in crisis with practical assistance, compassion and hope when they need it most. We cannot always change what has happened. But we can make sure a family never walks through it alone.
